Director of Music, St Nicholas Church North Walsham
David Ballard is a multifaceted musician based in North Norfolk, and is a graduate of UEA (Music, 2010,) the Open University (PGCE, 2012,) and a fellow of both the Curwen College of Music and Guild of Musicians and Singers. He was tutored on the organ by Peter Stevenson, Kenneth Ryder, Julian Thomas and Anne Page, and in conducting by Dr. Sharon Choa and Professor Peter Aston. David is Director of Music at St Nicholas, North Walsham where he recruits and trains the all male choir and musical director of Sheringham and Cromer Choral Society. He also teaches music at North Walsham Junior School. David is also in demand across Norfolk as a soloist, accompanist and guest conductor and in recent months has worked with the Royal Festival Singers, London Mozart Players, Southrepps Chorale, as well as with many individual instrumentalists.
A keen advocate of contemporary music, David has worked on compositional commissions with Richard Allain, Michael Finnissy John Rutter inter alia. Away from music, David can be found as a volunteer at the North Norfolk Railway, following the developing fortunes of Norwich City Football Club or sampling sparkling wine and cheeses from around the world.
Mr. Tim Harrison
Cathedral and Diocesan Director of Music
Timothy Craig Harrison read music at University College, Durham. After graduating in 1983 he taught music in schools for 14 years. in 1997 Tim returned to the North East to study composition under Augustin Fernandez and taught analysis and aural skills at Newcastle University. In 2002 Tim was appointed Director of Music at St Cuthbert's Seminary, Ushaw College, Durham.
Tim was appointed to the new post of Cathedral and Diocesan Director of Music for the Diocese of Middlesbrough in September 2010.
Tim is married to Rachel and they have five children. He juggles his life between his family and his work as a composer and choral director.
Mr. Robin Harrison
Robin began lessons with Graham Eccles, gaining his Grade 8 in two years. At 15 he received a bursary towards masterclasses with David Titterington and Petr Eben at
Dartington International Summer School. Regular teachers have included Noel Rawsthorne, Margaret Phillips (RNCM) and Roger Fisher. His PhD is on “The Late Style of Frank Bridge”. He has recently
played at Ripon and Durham Cathedrals and York Minster and has also performed at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, Liverpool Cathedral and Chester Cathedral.
He taught Academic Studies to RNCM undergraduates and has been Director of Music at independent schools nationally and internationally. His pupils have won exam awards for 8 years
Robin is Chapel Organist at Barnard Castle School (as well as Director of Music at the Prep School) and Organist plus choir director at Yarm Parish Church.
